Foreo Luna - Is It Worth the Hype?

Even though I'm a die-hard skincare fan, I've never really dabbled into the world of cleansing devices (apart from the odd Konjac sponge once in a blue moon). To me, the premise of cleansing the skin with something akin of an oversized electric toothbrush seemed less than appealing, so I approached the

Foreo Luna*

with an equal mix of excitement and scepticism. However, after the first use, my scepticism flew right out of the window, and it's been only up from there, really.

So, what is this thing and how does it work? Foreo Luna is a sonic cleansing device, which effectively employs more than a thousand silicone touch points to thoroughly cleanse the skin whilst reducing the signs of aging. The device works by channeling vibrations through the soft and hygienic silicone bristles, thus providing a deeper cleanse and removing any makeup, oil and dead skin cells, as well as encouraging blood circulation. As a result, you get softer, smoother and brighter complexion, which can be compared to an aftermath of a glycolic mask or a facial, however, in this case, the device can be used on a daily basis without the fear of irritating or stripping the skin.

For the past month or so, it has been a firm fixture in both my morning and evening  skincare routine (except for those days when I've literally fallen asleep on the desk, eek!). Though at first it sounded like a time-consuming step, in reality, it doesn't require much effort, as you are essentially working in your cleanser with the device instead of your hands. I apply it in circular motions over each section of my face for about 15 seconds (the device signals when it's time to move to another area), so the whole process takes about a minute or two. Despite its effective cleansing abilities, Luna extremely gentle, and the strength of the vibrations can be easily altered depending on the condition of your skin.  After charging it once, you're good to go for a year (around 450 uses), before having to whip out the charger again.

While it does wonders for brightening and livening up my skin, I haven't noticed that it has any effect on blemishes - it doesn't worsen the situation like a physical scrub would, but it also doesn't make them disappear overnight. However, it noticeably amps up the effectiveness of creams and serums, plus any base makeup glides on like a dream without clinging to any dehydrated patches. The anti-aging side is great for facial massages and working in oils, though at the grand old age of 23, I can't really comment on its effectiveness - keep your eyes peeled for an update in 10 years time.

To sum up, this device will make a great addition for someone who is seeking a gentle way to a brighter, smoother and firmer complexion. While it is quite pricey, it is well worth the splurge, if you're diligent about your skin care routine (and trying to save some pennies on monthly facials). The

Foreo Luna Mini

is a smaller and cheaper alternative

sans

the anti-ageing side, and the newly-released

Foreo Luna Play

offers a bite-sized trial of 100 uses without the option of recharging.
