Introduction to Dr. Hauschka
Skincare is and forever will be my favourite beauty-related subject to blabber on about. I mean, makeup is fun, but there's only so much I can add to the conversation without deviating from my "no makeup makeup" mantra. And while in the age of Instagram beauty trends, my day-to-day makeup choices remain relatively conservative, there's nothing like a new skincare product, or better yet, a new beauty brand to make my heart race in excitement.
A few months ago, I got introduced to Dr.Hauschka - a holistic, all-natural beauty brand that targets skin concerns through a mixture of high-quality ingredients and feel-good rituals. The brand uses organic, sustainably sourced and gathered ingredients, some of which have been obtained through fair trade initiatives, so you could say that the products are better for the skin and the environment. Something that I love about the brand is its general approach to skincare - the products are there to merely support and boost the natural regenerative abilities of the skin, not to entirely replace them. After working my way through their
* (a curated set of their bite-sized bestsellers), I'm ready to share my thoughts on some rather stellar products from the brand's extensive skincare lineup.
*. Where do I even start? It's a mascara remover, makeup melter and a one-step cleanser, all rolled into one super gentle yet incredibly effective formula. Having tested countless cleansing oils and balms, I was a bit unsure whether an all-natural formula could handle my nearly waterproof Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara, and, surprisingly enough, it did! In the evening, I use a few dampened cotton wool pads to loosen up my makeup and then I go straight in with the cleansing milk. The product itself is a tad lighter than a conventional cleansing balm yet no less hydrating, as it boasts a potent blend of jojoba and almond oil.
Similarly to the oh-so-famous Caudalie's Beauty Elixir, the
* is a true "feel good" product with some additional skincare benefits. It's particularly handy if you're constantly on the run, as few quick spritzes instantly relieve any post-wash tightness and return skin's pH back to normal. In addition, it can be used as a setting spray to remove any excess powderiness and make the makeup mesh together nicely. According to Dr. Hauschka, our skin is busiest during nighttime, therefore the brand suggests to finalise the evening skincare routine with the toner and skip any creams, thus boosting the natural regenerative and balancing abilities of the skin. While it's an interesting concept to play with, I personally feel that this route is more suited for the spring and summer months, when the effects of central heating and freezing temperatures aren't as prominent.
Lastly, I just had to mention the teeny tiny tube of the
*, which has lasted me for absolute ages. On the days when I can't be bothered to reach for my
, this is my cleanser of choice, as it offers the same
effect. The cleanser itself is a thick, almost grainy paste, which is meant to be gently pressed into the skin (if you sense something akin of a popping sensation, you're doing it right). It's an oddly satisfying product to use in the mornings, as it gives a slight massage and brings back some much-needed radiance. For me, it strikes the perfect balance between a creamy cleanser and a physical exfoliator, therefore I crack it out at least a few times during the week.
